CCR1036 PPPoE server bad performances

Tue Jun 14, 2016 9:57 pm

Hi all,
I have several CCR1036 that work like PPPoE server for customers.
In all of these, when they have more than 1000 PPPoE tunnels, and when several clients try to connect on server, I experience jitter and packet loss on ALL TUNNELS!
This causes me a lot of problems (voip and videogames over all).
I think is a cpu issue, though it isn't at 100%. I don't understand why.

Is it a software limit or a hardware limit?

Some problem on one 100mbit/s pppoe connection! Like a storm. Random time to start jitter, few minutes and stop. In "storm" pppoe upload down to 2mbit/s. Have two WAN and one bonding LAN(of two ports). three ipsec connections (aes128, 3des,des) . Slow performance on aes128 chiper and only when upload data across ipsec tunnel!!! Return to store this Ccr1009 with last stable update?

Have a good day!

Hi! Set auto negotiation of interface with pppoe to 100Mb/s only mode.
Remove all jump rules from mangle.
I'am have success !

Now only about 1500 per router, we bought more and powerfull routers.
But I still have this problem in all router: CCR1072 and CCR1036.
Rumors say this is a problem of CCR, with x86 no issues.

I'm waiting response from mikrotik support.

Does anybody use PPPoE with CCR without problems?

Unfortunately this video recommendation not really related with PPPoE server performance, but optimization of dynamic routing in case thousands of PPPoE routes.

I'm running CCR1036 with about 1100 connections without problems. Are your customers all on same L2 segment? Having 1000+ customers in same L2 segment could cause problem such as yours.
