Using HTTPS sign-on with hotspot consumes all memory

Thu Sep 28, 2006 10:03 am

When I use https logon for my hotspot (supports about 800 regular users) memory uses starts to climb rapidly and continues until all (224MB) memory is used. Eventually the router runs out of memory and starts to behave strangely (won’t answer DNS requests, etc…) until it is rebooted. Disabling https logons (ip hotspot profile set default login-by=http-pap) stops the memory climb but does not free up the already used memory. I've also tried "certificate reset-certificate-cache" but it had no effect. I've even removed the certificate, turned off https auth on the hotspot, then re-imported the cert and re-enabled https auth. No luck. Rebooting the router does clear up the used memory. I have no problems at all with regular HTTP logons.

Is anyone using HTTPS auth on their hotspot and not seeing this problem? Is it with local user accounts or stored on a RADIUS server?

It seems as if the router is caching the certificates from each user but then I would expect to stop seeing the memory use grow after each person has logged in once.

You can see the huge memory increase over the last two days as soon as HTTPS auth was turned on.

You should take support-output file from the router taken while the problem exists and send it to support@mikrotik.com

I'm using HTTPS login with the hotspot - no where near as many users but I have seen no unusual memory behaviour.

There could very well be an issue running that many clients with https logins. Thus why you should send the supout to MT.

Cabana: Thank you for your helpful contribution

Everyone else: I did send the support-output to MT but unfortunately their response was "try upgrading to the latest version". This isn't viable for me because there have been some major changes in hotspot between versions (I run 2.9.6) and I can't afford for the upgrade to be problematic. I'll just try a different hotspot gateway and see if that helps.

your welcome. I just find your "Hello??? Is anyone using HTTPS auth for their MikroTik hotspot?" a bit ignorant when you have already explained the issue that you are having, and as no one answered and Eugene asked you to send a support-output file, I thought it was obvious that no one was having or has come across the same issue as you are experiencing. You may have forgotten that this is a forum where there are many very helpful people who try to do just that, and you shouldn't just expect or assume that people must help you.
