Strange issue? Not sure what's going on.

Wed Sep 14, 2016 9:26 pm

I have a Mikrotik 750 and a CCR1036-124-4S.

I can not get in touch with a device on one end of a block by "My Machine" for some reason. Traceroutes just seem to be unable to find the device.

I think part of the problem is that my traceroutes seem to be using live IPs between the 750 and the CCR despite having private ips as well.

The network layout is as follows

My Machine (192.168.1.124) ===> (192.168.1.1) 750 (Live IP 66.84.88.112) ===> (Live IP 66.84.88.90) Core Router (10.100.5.1) ===> Another Device (10.100.5.10)

What I want is the private IPs by the 750 and the Core Router to be used instead (10.150.0.2 ===> 10.150.0.1)

What should I be doing about this?

I assume by "Live IP" you are referring to a dynamic IP. What is assigning the dynamic IP and why is the router getting one for each end? Or is there more to your drawing?

You have two routers connected to the internet, with private non-routable networks behind each of them. You will not be able to get to the private network on the other router without a VPN.

or... maybe you need a better description of the issue.

Based on your post, I have absolutely no idea what your network setup is. More details are needed. Show us your tracert and explain the network setup in more detail. Also explain what the 750 is doing. Is it routing? Is it masquerading? What are the ip addresses on the 750? Routes?

With the info you've already given, all I can add is:

If the 750 and the CCR are geographically located in different locations, connected only by the internet, then refer to what InrusDave said. If they are on the same private network, but on different subnets, you may have a routing problem where your requests are being sent out to the Internet instead of being routed to the other subnet of your private network.
