Wireless hotspot questions

Thu Oct 14, 2004 12:25 am

Hi,
Newbie here.
I have a wireless network built around Proxim AP-2500 access points.
I would like to use less expensive access points and Mikrotik’s hotspot software to do all the authentication and bandwidth control.
The access points will be linked via wireless bridges to the computer running the Mikrotik software.

Is this a feasible solution?
Any tips for setting this up?

Thanks
Guy

Yes it's feasible.

I'm doing the same using both hotspot / pppoe and RADIUS and it works fine.

HotSpot on Multiple Interfaces

Fri Oct 22, 2004 8:02 pm

On a related note... I am trying to get the Hotspot service to operate on multiple wireless interfaces and am using RADIUS for authentication. When a user connects to the first wireless interface I set up, the Mikrotik sends out the RADIUS auth request, we approve/disapprove, and the hotspot works as advertised. When the same user connects to a different wireless interface, no RADIUS auth is even attempted (watching the radius monitor screen shows no additional attempt).

I am using dhcp-pool authentication. I have separate temp and real IP addresses and corresponding pools for each hotspot AP interface.

Is this configuration supported (it isn't specifically dealt with in the documentation).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave
