London UK MUM 2016 - Nov 14th

Hi to everyone attending, or thinking of attending the MikroTik User Meeting in London, UK! If you haven't already registered - do so now as available space is getting severely limited! http://mum.mikrotik.com/2016/UK/info/EN

I thought it might be a good idea if anyone attending discuss anything 'London MUM 2016' related in this thread?

Some of us are thinking of going out into the West End for a meal on the Sunday or Monday night? Everyone paying their own way, but any ideas of preferred day, restaurant location or numbers interested? Initial views have been for a steak house?

Good Afternoon All,

I'm arriving between 8-10pm Sunday night so Monday night meet up and meal sounds great. Steak house has my vote.

I think it's great there is finally a MUM in the UK and I hate that we are going to miss it but our project schedule is just crazy right now. Will have to watch it on the live stream and then see you guys at MUM Europe in 2017.

Hate that i'm missing the steakhouse too :-P

Using RoMON and CHR with GNS3
A look at how Cloud Hosted Router used in conjunction with RoMON in GNS3 has made learning and building networks in virtualisation super simple.

Just checked the mum website to see I was on the agenda for 3pm now I'm 11:15am

Also, it might change on the day itself again as well! Always very important that all speakers keep an eye on the board immediately outside the conference room at a MUM which will list who is on when or keep in regular touch with MikroTik staff throughout the day. Talks can sometimes go on longer than expected and require start times for talks to be pushed back a quarter hour or so. Or they could be much shorter and require speakers to get ready earlier! Therefore it's important to bear in mind that the exact presentation start times on the day itself can be "fluid". Why do you think I'm on first?!

That also applies to the "End of MUM Raffle". If all presentations have finished early, then the raffle starts early! Which in turn then also means the free beer starts earlier. :)

Please take into account the upcoming IPv6 examination for trainers on Sunday afternoon or evening, an excellent opportunity any trainers should take. So Ron and any other trainers could be busy at that time. More info will be emailed to trainers shortly.

Good Afternoon Guys,

Do I take this there is going to be a new MikroTik Cert soon for IPv6. If so I will love to take that as my IPv6 knowledge is poor.

Too early to tell if anyone of the trainers will pass the test. Prepare well, this is not something a lot of people pass on the first attempt. (And this exam does not have a "second chance" option)

Chris - We use IPv6 every day. Have done for years. It's actually quite easy once you get passed the initial scary "much bigger numbers than IPv4" stage :) However using IPv6 all the time does not guarantee you know what exactly MT will test us on!

We've seen the syllabus, we have training slides. Therefore we have "an idea" on what we will be tested on. But first we have to pass the exam with a higher mark than you students have to, so... let's see what happens. Plus, I'm not going to create my own training material and "sell" any training courses until I've passed and again, unlike you guys we only get the one chance to pass this. (So, no pressure there then! :P) Also, creating accurate and high quality training material, designing and testing the practical labs takes a long while so I would expect it to be spring/summer next year before we have anything to offer the general public. (If I pass!)

No worries Ron. Next summer will be fine its on my list to do at some stage.

I'm suggesting that if anyone wants to meet up for an evening meal on the Sunday, that we all meet up in the foyer of the Hyatt's Hotel at say 7pm? Any thoughts on a suitable nearby restaurant? A few of us have already requested a "steakhouse". I'm happy to find somewhere and make a booking, but obviously I would need to have some typical numbers of those wanting to go :)

I'll be there on the Monday for at least the morning, will be good to catch up with some old faces. Unfortunately won't be able to make the Sunday evening meal but if you are after some suggestions for steak in the west end..

Heliot Steakhouse - Above the hippodrome casino in Leicester Sq
Seven Dials - Covent Garden
Goodman - Mayfair

First one advisable to book, last two def needs booking..

As I am now about to leave for London and therefore may not be regularly updating this with any more posts before the MUM, here is the latest on the evening meal...
I will be in the Hyatt's Hotel front Foyer / reception area from around 18:30 on Sunday evening onwards. For those coming in from overseas and who have never seen any of us before, myself (and possibly a few other Trainers) will be wearing the official MikroTik black Trainer shirts or previous MikroTik MUM shirts so that you will know which group to join!

We will then all leave at 7pm or soon after for the "Flat Iron" in Denmark Street on foot. It is not very far away and can therefore be easily walked to. The restaurant is a steak house, but it does not take reservations. If they do not have a table free, they will apparently normally issue a UHF pager and will page us when a table becomes free. There are plenty of pubs and bars in the local area and therefore I am confident we can have a drink somewhere nearby if we need to wait. :)

I look forward to seeing friends, new and old at the London MUM!

Also make sure you have your Windows laptops updated with the latest fixes before you start your talk :-) :-)
(visitors to yesterday's MUM in Amsterdam will know what I mean...)

In our case the beer was approximately on-time. But we had way more participants than space in the room.
It was a successful first MUM in the Netherlands.

Looks like it'll be the same in London. Over 350 registered already and probably of those, 250 will turn up. It's going to be full!

I don't know the numbers and if/how they anticipate on people not turning up, but there were at least 15 more participants
than seats in the room, probably more. Of course after the introduction not everyone is attending every presentation
so it was not that bad. A bigger room would have been nice though, to have some more air to breathe :-)

Thanks to everyone at MikroTik for putting on this event. And thanks to the other speakers for their presentations - good to meet so many of you and talk about firewalling, network security, DDoS attacks, abusive traffic mitigation...

Looking forward to the next one :-)

Adding a /me too - Great to put real names to faces instead of IRC nicks! Apologies if I didn't get round to saying hello to some of you guys out there. I was a little more occupied at this MuM with stuff. I enjoy the MuM social networking, sharing ideas and concepts. I picked up quite a few! Roll on many more UK MuMs!
