2011UiAS Ethernet Interface Flapping

Sun Jan 15, 2017 3:54 am

We are having an issue with an 2011UiAS, a Netgear router and constantly flapping interfaces. Current software version is 6.38, firmware is 3.33. Setting ports to auto negotiate or fixed makes no difference, issue occurs on Ether1 and Ether6. Rebooting the Netgear will work for about a week. I have seen several posts related to this issue without a resolution.

Re: 2011UiAS Ethernet Interface Flapping

Hello,

Any news about this thread? I have the same situation with the 2011UiAS and a TPLINK WPA4220. Constant flapping of the mikrotik interface every 2 minutes or so.

I have tried restricting auto negotiation to one option (100M full duplex) and doing it manually, without succes.

Thanks.

I have the same issue with a 962UiGS-5HacT2HnT connected to the 1GB ports on a RB2011UAS. The fix for me is to reboot the RB2011UAS last. In other words, the last device to be rebooted (by a space of at least a minute or so or whenever the other switch is up and running fully) must be the MikroTik. Please test and report back.

Sorry, that didn't work for me. Still the same flapping after every reboot.

i have the same problem with a RB3011UiAS-RM. Ether1 and Ether4 flapping. Ether1 is WAN and Ether4 is switch (cisco WS-C3750G-24TS). No other ports are connected to RB3011UiAS-RM. Flapping occurs when there is no wan traffic (eg. over night). If i do remove the Ether1 flapping occurs, if i remove ether4 (cisco switch WS-C3750G-24TS) flapping do not occur. EtherStats from Mikrotik Router OS and EtherStats from Cisco do not show any errors or collisions. Cisco C3750G-24TS works with no problems, no other device connected to the switch do have any problems.

i tried to reboot RB3011UiAS-RM as last device on the network, but flapping still occurs.
i tried to turn off loop protection, but flapping still occurs.
i tried to change the uplink cables to ether1 and ether4, but flapping still occurs.
i changed port on Cisco switch from port1 to port2 connected to RB3011UiAS-RM and i changed port on RB3011UiAS-RM from ether4 to ether5 connected to cisco switch, both with no success.
The port flapping frequency is not constant.

Basically there is no issue with that. As soon as there is traffic flapping stops. But logs are horrible to read and it feels like something is wrong.

Is there any way to get a detailed report why RB3011UiAS-RM puts the ports down and up again. The log only states "07:52:14 interface, info ether1 link down". What are the circumstances to take this ether ports down?

Firmware and ROS is the newest.

log:
07:52:14 interface,info ether1 link down
07:52:14 interface,info ether2-master link down
07:52:14 interface,info ether4 link down
07:52:16 interface,info ether1 link up (speed 100M, full duplex)
07:52:17 interface,info ether4 link up (speed 1G, full duplex)
07:52:18 interface,info ether2-master link up
07:53:04 interface,info ether1 link down
07:53:04 interface,info ether2-master link down
07:53:04 interface,info ether4 link down
07:53:06 interface,info ether1 link up (speed 100M, full duplex)
07:53:07 interface,info ether4 link up (speed 1G, full duplex)
07:53:08 interface,info ether2-master link up

I agree, as soon as there is traffic, the flapping stops.

I seem to recall that removing the bridge on my RB3011 resolved my port flapping issue.

I have exact the same issue as you. However for me when there is no WAN traffic all the ports on switch 1 go down for a short while. Picking a random machine and running ping on it constantly makes the flapping stop... so the workaround for me for now is to run ping to a website all night long (or at least make sure there is always traffic). I tried installing 6.38.1 and 6.39rc33 but the problems remain unfortunately.

If i read the change logs correctly, the port flapping fix that is in 6.38.3 is not in 6.39rcXX yet. So it is worth a shot to install 6.38.3 and see if that fixes my problems.

Has this problem cropped up again? I have some 650 or so routers in the field with "pairs" (where two Mikrotik devices are connected to each-other) exhibiting this problem between each-other on 6.38.1. I'm obviously reluctant to upgrade them all, although they're causing issues across my network...

The same here, a long time has passed and we already have v6.43.4 and nothing has changed. I think it might be related to the device connected to the port that flaps. In my case it is an smart TV, so I suspect that when it is in standby mode, it connects and disconnects from time to time.
