Mapping Network Drive Through VPN

Fri Nov 10, 2006 1:54 am

Newbie question-
I've setup a ipip tunnel between two MT boxes, assigned ip's, routes etc and can ping between the two different internal networks.

I can't figure out how to get to the file server on the other end... i.e. the whole point of a vpn.

HELP!

are you trying to use NetBIOS / WINS names over the VPN?

Can you give some more information about the internal networks involved? routing tables and ip addresses of the devices in play would help..

Are the file servers on the same subnet as the remote clients?

Basically I just need some more info to make any kind of intelligent suggestion.

I guess what I was trying to do would require Netbios.
I've got it to work, I have to type in the network address in the Add Network Place wizard in Winxp.

What I've ended up with-

Router1 address's
wlan1 xx.xx.xx.189
ether1 192.168.254.1

Router2 address's
wlan1 xx.xx.xx.181
ether1 192.168.1.1

I've added EoIP tunnel with the Public Ip's to each
Ive added bridge with ether1 and eoip interfaces each

I've also added :

Router1 address
eoip1 1.1.1.1
route -
destination 192.168.1.0/24 Gateway 1.1.1.1

Router2 address
eoip 1.1.1.2
route -
destination 192.168.254.0/24 gateway 1.1.1.2

It seems to work.

This is on a routerboard 112. I first enabled PPP, but the board would constantly lockup.

EoIP might be used together with PPTP in order to secure data between two remote offices. But a lot of PPTP traffic asks for higher CPU resources.
