Enable multicast to print with Airprint

Thu May 18, 2017 6:27 am

Hi

I want to print vía Airprint and I was searching in google and I found that Airprint need Multicast. Actually I loaded the multicast package and enable PIM but I can't print from my Ipad.

Does anybody know, what else I need to configure to permit the multicast on the interface bridge?

Thanks

you don't need nothing. bridge will forward (flood) multicast frames. airprint uses bonjour (mdns) for service discovery only. but you need default forward=on on your wireless to enable c2c communication

and one more thing: mdns cannot be routed, works only inside a broadcast domain

You can setup DNS based service discovery. I'm not sure if the built-in caching resolver supports this. It works with BIND and MS DNS and is a valid design for AirPrint in a routed network.

FWIW, this also solved my Apple HomePod problem where there was no "Now Playing" card in the control center.
