Transparent Bridge - PPPoE

Mon May 22, 2017 12:33 pm

I have been searching and trying to do this for months now - I have found a few assisting threads on this forum but non of them seemed to help me get it to work.

I am trying to set up a MIkrotik as a transparent bridge with a PPPoE server. This is in a test environment.

Edge router:

Edge Router is a Mikrotik with a static IP getting internet with basic NAT masquerade - I have bridged ports 2 and 3 and given them the IP address 150.10.0.1/24
I can connect to these ports and get internet no problem. Router can ping Google etc.

Transparent Bridge:

Mikrotik router, ports 1, 2 and 3 are bridged with the IP 150.10.0.2/24 - I have assigned a PPPoE server to the bridge. This router has internet, I can plug in and get internet through a static IP (150.10.0.21 for example, no NAT) I have created a PPP secret with the IP's 150.10.0.25(Remote) 150.10.0.26(Local) which connects no problem however the client does not get internet.

I have set up a pass through NAT rule on the edge router and I can see traffic coming from 150.10.0.25, lots and lots of DNS requests, but there is no internet at the client.

Can anyone help please?

No help?

I have read many posts where people have managed to figure it out but they don't mention how so I assume someone must know.

It definitely seems to be a case of the edge router not knowing how to send the traffic back to the client router. Or the transparent PPPoE bridge not knowing what to do with the data once received once received.

I do not understand what you want at all and what you already tried because bridging all ports together in a pppoe setup and a nat passthrough rule makes to me no sense?? Can you please explain your problem again and what you want. And more information on your setup would be also gread (interface/ ip adresses).

Thanks so much for the reply.

I want my Mikrotik router to act as a transparent bridge and to be a PPPoE server

"I want to configure Mikrotik, to be transparent bridge, and also be a PPPoE server. User would dial in PPPoE server, get authenticated and move to internet. I do not want to use NAT, as the IP's I have are all public."

Does that make more sense? I am in a test environment so the setup is as basic as possible.

Okay I solved it thanks to countless brilliant posts by ZeroByte and his great way of explaining things.

All I needed to do was add a simple route to the edge router.

It would also be brilliant if you past the link to the post from Zerobute that helped you out. The next one looking for this will be pleased to find it all on a silver tablet.
One RB4011 (cooled) and a RB760iGS (hEX S) in series. The 4011 Does PPPoE/IKEv2.
The cooler: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=138613&start=300#p799879
Running:
RouterOS 6.47 / Winbox 3.24 / MikroTik APP 1.3.14
