RB2011 packet loss on larger packets over wifi

Wed Aug 02, 2017 7:03 pm

I'm experiencing issues with wifi with packets larger than 500-600Byte.
Basically 15-20% packet loss with ICMP 1000Byte packets. So it isn't a MTU issue, rather something wrong with the radio on the RB itself.
Smaller packets are not dropped.

Tried both 6.40 and latest bugfix release. Same behaviour.

The setup is pretty simple, RB2011UAS with 3 SSIDs serving as an AP, connected over 1G link to a switch and to the router. Each vAP is in a separate bridge and tagged upstream over a trunk terminated on the router.

AP(ssid1-3) --(vlan1-3)-- switch --(vlan1-3)-- router

I've tried to eliminate all the components, and ended up testing the radio only.
I pulled one of the vAP interfaces from the bridge and defined an IP straight on that vAP interface. I've seen no change in behaviour when trying to interact between a client and the AP itself.

I proceeded to play further with wireless options but nothing helped.
There aren't many wifi networks in the neighborhood (<10 SSIDs) to cause interference.

Is the radio possibly dying?

You have very strong signals from other APs in the neighborhood. Really strong. Like as if they are stacked.
This causes mutual interference that affects mainly larger packets.

Hmmmm
But those are mostly on 2412
Are they really interfering this much on 2437 ?
I must admit I am puzzled how people even use wifi in a crowded apartment building. I can't imagine I have such a bad situation..

Is there anything I can do here, tweak certain parameters, anything except going 5G?
