back and restore on same model different OS version

Tue Aug 15, 2017 2:00 pm

What is the best way to back up a configuration for RB1100 and then restoring to a new RB1100 that has a new version OS?

from 6.24 to 6.34.7

The best solution would be to use export and import:
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:C ... Management

If you import configuration on device with another RouterOS version then some parameters might differ and then you can simply edit configuration file in order to adjust it to new RouterOS version.

If you would use backup, then you could import configuration reliably only on same model device and if same RouterOS version is installed as it was on router when backup was generated.

Hello

As much a question as a suggestion...

How about downgrading the new device, restoring the backup, resetting the mac addresses and then upgrading?

That may not be possible. Better update the old box before making the backup you want to transfer.
(of course make another backup before the update)
