Trying to understand BTEST and why I get different reading

Fri Sep 29, 2017 5:52 pm

I was trying to test some throughput one day at a site and noticed that all my btest from IDF to MDF would come up at 500mx900m. I was testing from a 1100 just had an IP on it not cfg to a CCR 1036 full up hotspot with lott of mangle rules and firewall rules. Thinking I may had a config issue in my GW I setup the same test here and got the same speeds 500mx900m.
If I turned my hotspot off I would get the 900mx900m thinking this was a limitation of the hotspot. I then did one last test by putting another 1100 we will call 1100b in front of the CCR1036. I then set the internal 1100 to btest out the 1036 and to the 1100b. I then got my full 900mx900m over the hotspot and out the WAN to the 1100b.

My question is why did i not get the full 900mx900m when testing to the 1036 but could get it when test to the 1100b out over the 1036 going through all my filter firewall rules?

Thanks

BTest is very resource intensive for a router to run and is limited to only one core, so it is generally not recommended that you run it on the device you are testing. Instead you should run it to a route in front of and behind the device you want to test.
