CF card or Hard disk?

Sat Dec 09, 2006 8:43 pm

Hi guys,
I'm making outdoor wireless batch with normal CELERON 3.0 Ghz but I was wondering which one u guys recommend? use hard disk 80GB or CF card with IDE adapter to keep my license safe?

in fact do they have much different in booting time or functioning time? I am not going to do webproxy so no need big space and I can attach a fan for cooling to hard disk.

but there was this issue of memory writing limits? because I keep logs alot for anything, so will my license be safe?

thanks

CF card every time. No moving parts, far more tolerant of temperature change, no unreliable fans required, more reliable, faster.

It depends on what purpose do you use the Mikrotik. If you are going to set up a webproxy then the answer is obviouse.

But mostly I use it as wireless router/access point and CF card with IDE adapter is the best choice.

it is unlikely that I will want to setup web-proxy on that board since its on top of the tower.

so I think I decide to put 512Mb CF which is less than 18USD

Thanks again

careful with 512, there have been some incompatibility issues with some models. i would suggest a 1Gb sandisk extreme or ultra. those are good quality

Always CF, and don't buy Kingston - we've had two of them fail now. Lexar has been good to us, as has Sandisk.

Using Lexar 4x 512s with wraps. Back and forth with the betas and such. No issues.

Sandisk Extreme 12GB and 16GB are now available - pretty cool for proxy caching!
