CCR1009-7G-1C-1S+ vs CCR1009-7G-1C-1S+PC

Sun Dec 17, 2017 1:44 pm

I'm going to buy one of these. They are the same, but: first one is with fans, second has passive cooling.

Any benefits of having passive colling - other than that it's just silent? Anyone got temperature charts or smth? I don't rly care about the noise.

Anyone?

The model without "PC" is a rack model with dual (redundant) power supplies more suited for a corporate environment,
the PC model is a table top model more suited for use at home or maybe in a remote office where there is no rack.

Hmm, the PC model can also be attached to RACK and also has redundant power supplies (POE and DC) though. Hmm, dunno, I'll probably go with "with fans" option.

I owned CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+PC before model change of CCR1009-7G-1C-1S+PC, but Japan's hot and humid summer was truly a tough feeling with passive cooling.(At least when used at home dining)

It was getting hot enough to touch at least, and there is memory that there was not much effect even if CPU down clock was carried out.

Yeah, I'm going to stick with "fans" version, If there is problem with high pitch noise (well, if someone here will cry becasue of it) I'll repleace stock fans with:

Noctua NF-A4x20 PWM.

Thx for answers people ;)

There are 2 fans, one of them is running and the other is standby in cast the first one fails, and the speed of the running fan is controlled to keep the CPU at 50 degrees or lower.
That means that when the incoming air is like 20 degrees, it runs only quite slowly and the noise is bearable.
The more the temperature of the incoming air increases, the faster the fan runs. When it is like 35 degrees, it runs at full speed.

The PC model has redundant supply capability but comes with only 1 supply. The rack/fan model comes with 2 supplies built in (and I think it can take PoE as well)

Hi, Are you replaced Noctua NF-A4x20 PWM ? Have you tested?
What about noise replaced Noctua?
I wondering. I will also buy the CCR1009-7G-1S-1C.
Please reply.

PC model is 9x1Ghz cores
Non-PC model is 9x1.2Ghz cores

These are stock figures but a small difference to be noticed if you are doing CPU intensive tasks.

My 5 cents.
I have replaced original fans in my home CCR1009-7G-1C-1S+ with Noctua NF-A4x20. Not PWM, 3-pin FLX version, as MikroTik does'n support PWM.
I run them on standard speed (without using step-down cables).
The unit became much quieter, and the sound is much-much less irritating, but still not completely silent.
So it's not like you can have it in your bedroom.
The airflow is also much better with Noctua even on lower rotating speeds.

I also added a script to the scheduler to switch the active fan once a week.
But another idea is to buy just one Noctua fan, and replace only the main with it, and leave the stock one as a spare, to catch only when primary fails.

Are original fans tachometric anyway ?
as MikroTik does'n support PWM
Do MT actually uses speed monitoring and voltage-controlled speed ?

It has helped a lot.

Both the original fans and noctua that I use now are standard 3-pin fans.
So the speed is monitored and is controlled by voltage.
I can see the actual speed in the "health" tab.
For me it is always 58-59ºC on the CPU and 5600-5700rpm these days (it is rather hot in the room, but load on the device is minimal).
If I close all the ventilation holes by some cloth the speed rises to 6000+ rpm so the device is trying to maintain optimal temperature.

In my CCR1009-8G models the CPU temp is regulated towards 50 degrees.
When the ambient is like 20-25 degrees it can easily achieve this with the original fan.
Once the ambient rises the CPU rises to e,g, 58 degrees like you have.
So I would say there is something wrong, maybe fans in the wrong orientation.

No, the fans are oriented like they should - to blow the air out of the unit.
Like I said, it's rather hot in the room now, close to 30 I guess. When the ambient temperature was lower - the CPU temperature was also around 50, like you have.
Original fans also worked normally, if we are talking about the ability to cool the unit.
But they are a higher rpm fans (7000, as i recall), and have a very irritating sound.
That was the reason to replace them, not that they were unable to handle their work.
Noctua, on the other hand, are 5000rpm, and can achieve the same airflow at lower speeds with lower noise.
I guess the rpm numbers I get in winbox are not the real rpm, because the device has to be calibrated for 7000rpm fan.
And the real rpm is something like 5650x(5000/7000) ~ 4000rpm

I have both, the default CPU frequency is lower on PC model, but easy to clock it back to 1200MHz without issue (assume in a not so hot environment), it is smaller and the LCD screen is on the top so is good for wallmount in network equipment box.
If you don't mind the fan noise or size get the non PC, otherwise go for PC, anyway you can use a USB fan point to the huge heatsink to cool the PC model.
sure go for the non PC if use in a rack

Thanks for infos,
If a fan is down as spare, and cooling is an issue, I'm wondering about to connect both in parallel to achieve a better CFM rate (despite slightly more noise, not so much anyway)
It would be interesting to find a point where a single fan@Xrpm equals two fans@Yrpm and evaluate noise levels.

Guys i actually have CCR1009-7G-1C-1S+
i am just wanting a help with the device since it doesnt have a wireless LAN. Now I bought a TP-Link WBS510 (which is supposedly CPE). I am having a hard time configuring it with mikrotik so that i can use th TP-Link as an external AP
