syslog facility

Fri Dec 22, 2006 12:11 am

Hi forum,

I'm trying to get my network (well, right now my test box) to log to a standard linux syslog server.

I can receive logs if I configure my syslogd to log *.* (all facilities/all severities). But, I don't want ALL of the logs, I just want specific things.

In the router's configuration, I see various "topics" to log, but I need to know how these relate to syslog facilities (auth, daemon, user, etc.)

Which facilities do I need to use for which topics?

Thanks.

Specify the exact information that you need to log and send to the syslog server.

to clarify sergejs suggestion - not all logs are sent to `remote`, only the ones that you set to do so. so, filter your logs on the router's end, not in the syslog.

btw good syslog daemons should be able to filter out stuff based on some patterns you set up.
