IEEE 802.1Qbb

Mon Feb 05, 2018 8:26 pm

Hi,
are the tx-flow-control and rx-flow-control the mikrotik implementation of IEEE 802.1Qbb?
IEEE 802.1Qbb is a must-have for the RoCE (RDMA over Converged Ethernet) that could be used with 10Gbe on CRS317-1G-16S+RM

Thanks
Alessandro

as i see the ASIC: Marvell Prestera 98DX8216 is use by the CRS317-1G-16S+RM.

https://www.marvell.com/switching/prestera-dx/
at the link above, if i down below to application section i will see PFC support by chip.

"Support for the newest Tag formats (VXLAN, NVGRE, Geneve) and congestion management capabilities (PFC, ETS)"

as you are seen the the hardware is support,
but also i waiting for mikrotik information and confirmation in the RouterOS and Switch OS support on this features.
if yes. i willing to buy the CRS317-1G-16S+RM to replace by old devices.

*Bump*
Really want to know if we can use this for an interconnect for 10gbit RDMA traffic.

And another request....

We're looking to purchase a couple of CRS317-1G-16S+RM devices to handle RDMA for 2 x 4 node Hyper Converged Hyper V Clusters.

Is there any word from MikroTik on this subject?

Or does anyone else have real-world experience using them for this purpose?

Eagerly waiting for an answer on this as well...

We're in the process of planning a hyper-converged infra and seriously considering a couple of CRS317-1G-16S+RM for interconnects.
A clarification on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Forgot to come back and let everyone know.
Asked Support... /SadFace
Hello,

CRS3xx series switches provide wirespeed Layer2 forwarding on all their ports.
Since RoCE protocol is encapsulated with L2 Ethernet header, CRS3xx switches can forward it, but the Priority Flow Control (IEEE 802.1Qbb) is not supported.

Best regards,
Janis B.
