Reformat hold button max, why not for all devices?

Fri Apr 13, 2018 7:49 pm

On cloud core 1009 i can set reformat-hold-button-max 78s
go into settings and apply protected routerboard checkbox and no error.
But on smaller devices, map lite or metal or RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT i can not, it says that current routerboard does not allow for hold button max.
(all is updateted and most recent firmware and routeros and routerboard, 6.41)
Why?
I also want to protect cheaper devices, not only the expensive ones.

Put the results of command
/sys resource pri
/sys rou pri
inside RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT here.

Because you did not read it well enough. Especially the first bullet.

The backup RouterBOOT version can not be older than v3.24 version. A special package is provided to upgrade the backup RouterBOOT (DANGEROUS). Newer devices will have this new backup loader already installed at the factory. Download the package for:

MIPSBE platform here SMIPS platform here MMIPS platform here TILE platform here.

the device has to have the new bootloader in it's hardware built in. the button causes the system to load the factory bootloader. this is why I said in the other thread, you must wait until the devices are manufactured with the new bootloader

Isn't that "hardware boot loader" fixed by the above procedure? That is what I understood from the above wiki page.

YOU MUST UPGRADE FACTORY BIOS (factory-firmware) version to use protected RouterBOOT functions!!!
You know the differencies between Software (RouterOS) and BIOS (Firmware / RouterBOOT)?
You have 3.22 factory firmware and must be updated to correctly use protected RouterBOOT (RouterBOOT is not RouterOS)
Follow my guide, is not perfect because I do not know english, but if you READ ALL is useful:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=94303&start=50#p580430

model RB951G-2HnD, mipsbe, firmware-type ar9344, the factory RouterBOOT is upgradable to 3.41? YES

model: CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, tile, firmware-type: tilegx, the factory RouterBOOT is upgradable to 3.41? YES

the wiki manual includes NPK files that upgrade factory bootloader, this will resolve the issue. let me know if you did that or not.

1. upgrade RouterOS
2. upgrade routerboot with "/system routerboard upgrade"
3. upgrade factory bootloader with the NPK in the manual.

My guide is better for understand how to update (for example, for use NPK current-firmware must be 3.41 and RouterOS 6.40.7), but I'm not well on english to update the wiki... ;)

There are no NPK files, only DPK.
typo or am i missing something?

No, it still not working according to your guide.

I did this:
upgrade routeros, upgrade rputerboard, drop file
https://www.mikrotik.com/download/share ... mipsbe.dpk
into winbox
reboot:

result is i still can not use max hold button.

should i try @rextended guide?

will it change anything?

everything works fine, after pressing reset button shorter than hold time, it does not do anything.
But i want also that MAX HOLD button to work as wiki says, and this red error says that it does not apply here.

Again:
PROTECTED ROUTERBOARD: WORKS
reformat-hold-button: WORKS
reformat-hold-button-max - does NOT works.

I want reformat-hold-button-max to work.

Ok, the guide is as @rextended post.
Doing anything on routeros 6.41.4 does NOT UPGRADE factory firmware.

So to do it i have to be on 6.40.7 and fw 3.41, now it works fine:
no error message, all is supported:

So wiki says now:
The backup RouterBOOT version can not be older than v3.24 version. A special package is provided to upgrade the backup RouterBOOT (DANGEROUS). Newer devices will have this new backup loader already installed at the factory. Download the package for:
MIPSBE platform here SMIPS platform here MMIPS platform here TILE platform here.
and it should be CHANGED TO:
The backup RouterBOOT version can not be older than v3.24 version.
To use all protected routerboard features you have to have RouterBOOT =>3.38.3 as FACTORY FIRMWARE.

A special package is provided to upgrade the backup RouterBOOT (DANGEROUS). Newer devices will have this new backup loader already installed at the factory. Download the package for:
MIPSBE platform here SMIPS platform here MMIPS platform here TILE platform here.

To use it you have to be running on RouterOS 6.40.7 and firmware 3.41.
1.Install routeros 6.40.7
2.Go to System Routerboard upgrade firmware to have 3.41
3.Reboot
4.Download above DPK package
5.Drop this dpk package to winbox
6.Reboot.
7.Now you have Factory firmware 3.41 and you can upgrade your routeros to newest version from System->Packages.
All functionality of protected routerboard is now enabled.
