I can only guess, but my guess is that it will be using power-line communication standard for one of it's interfaces. If done correctly, it will be compatible to other similar products to mix in same network.

Well, it would make sense if it would use G.hn for power-line communications and 5 GHz WiFi. So you could place one in each room and not having too much interference, especially when the device will have low gain antennas (less disturbance from other WiFi signals).

It would also be nice to have a power supply (24V/48V DC) with builtin power-line communications bridge. So to connect any MT device (Router, Switch, AP, ...) to this network. It would have two connectors: DC out and Ethernet. Just swap the orginal power supply against this new one and connect the additional LAN port to your MT device.

Single connector - ethernet. And have selectable PoE: either 48V 802.3af or 24V passive ...

Can I use this without the Wifi feature? I only want to use it as a virtual ethernet cable. So, one near the router, and one near the PC. Then plug in a short cat5 cable out of the second unit to the PC.

There will be RouterOS so many possibilities for setup are expected. It should be possible to simply disable wifi interface if not needed.

Can the APs be controlled by capsman? That would be nice, quick setup.

Wish it was dual band and had POE out.

Hi Normis,

I've previously used the ones that work in pairs, but don't really understand how do these connect to each other.
If you have 5 you'd be able to add 3 of them in a bridge and 2 in another or ... ?
There's special ROS menu to manage this ?

You sync the new device with the sync button. Then all the PWR Line units get added to one bridge. Here is more info:

I've just contacted one of my distributors regarding availability and delivery in the UK. I was told that this product won't be coming to the UK as Mikrotik have no interest in marketing this product in the UK.

Can someone from Mikrotik please confirm if this is the case? I've repeatedly asked for a delivery date on this thread with no reply.

Thanks

Can you hook it up to a short cable convertor, naturally suitable for your environment?

Probably it woukd be better to use a rigid plug adapter so that RB device stays nicely upright.

Plus, my experience is that extension cord, using braided wires (lo allow flexibility), really hurts PLC performance. Not sure how plug adapters perform though.

I got the chance to test and use them. I didnt expect much though, since power line communication is an old standard, BUT i’m surprised

You can leave them in default and they connect with each other, and you can clear the config and experiment.

https://youtu.be/T7Lzh8zO88w

Will put them in CAPsMAN etc. with these devices you have all the routerOS features, without the need for ethernet cables. 😄😄☺️

Different countries/regions have different frequencies that Powerline kit can run on, or notches may also be cut out depending on local regulations etc. Running one with a band plan from a different country might be sub optimal or cause interference.

Questions regarding Power-Line
1. What is the max range that i can connect two Power-Line?
2. Can i connect more than 2 devices?
3. Is there any chance to block button? (for protection purposes)?

Distance depends on your power line quality and other many factors, similar to wireless, where range is never clearly defined. Mostly less than 200 meters.

Yes, you can make a network of up to 8 powerline devices.

What I don't understand is why they didn't update the powerline chipset from circa 2012 to at least circa 2015 as already noted by several 10/100/1000. Adding a more recent av2 standard or H.gn standard with the wifi on many mikrotik units the QCA9533 chip and ROUTEROS, would result in a much more attractive product.
https://www.qualcomm.com/products/qca7500

THere is also the G.hn standard that develo (german) has adopted and extello (north american) as well whereas most of the tplink and others are using the AV2 standard.

Okay, can I first say, - this angry bloated bird thing is OUTTA control!! :-)

Yes, thanks finally joining this decade on power line LOL.
Now just mate it with decent wifi and routerOS and you will find the promised land! I BELIEVE................

I like what Devolo (a german company) is doing on their professional line by exploring G.hn on some products and by adding POE and VLANs on their models.
Thus its a business ready proposition.
https://www.devolo.com/business-solutions/products

However you throw in decent wifi and RouterOS and Mikrotik is a much better value proposition.

I like that you've finally gone with a clover leaf power connector rather than a country specific plug, makes for easy use in all countries without a specific socket version.

Puzzled why you left out RouterOS, as mentioned it has so many possibilities.

My wish list for future expansion on this would be as follows
  • Full RouterOS implementation
  • A version with multiple ports (retain POE out)
  • 802.3at POE output
  • Dual band 802.11ac
  • Wall mountable
  • Basicly something like Hap ac or Wap ac with power line built in would be great

PWR-LINE PRO looks interesting. However I'd love to see a version that is mountable in place of a standard power socket (in a case similar to wsAP ac lite). Possibly even with the power pass-through.

Manufacturers don't like that as much as you do, because they would have to manufacture several different types for usage across the world, and also would have to comply with several regulations applying to power products.
With the device as it is now, they can use different line cords for different countries. And regulations for pluggable devices are often less stringent than for wall-mounted permanently connected things.

Thank you.

PRO ac version?

More gigabit ports?

Power socket (although it is likely a better idea to focus on the PRO style) ?
