I've had my CRS328 racked and in production now for > 30 days.
I'm currently powering 10 SBCs (with POE splitters) and a number of ruckus APs, hexs, and hexpoes that are then powering hexs and ruckus APs. I have two outdoor ruckus APs, one of which is also powering a camera from the poe out port. After collecting 24 hours of 1 sec samples the max power for the outdoor AP + camera was 25.9W. Mean was around 14W.
I have tested 3 OS/firmware updates (routeros and routerboard) with zero power loss to connected devices (uptimes confirmed on APs, switches, and SBCs).
I have been able to shutoff and restore power remotely to devices.
My only two (current) criticisms:
1. The fan keeps cycling on and off. It's in a rack in a utility room, so none hear it, but I'm concerned about fan failure if it constantly starts up, runs for a min, then is down for a min, then repeat. I'd like an option to just keep the fan running.
2. The top row of LEDs are so bright that the "red" led to indicate 57V bleeds over to the next vacant LED indicator spot, so you have to check if something is in the port or not. If you connect a low volt passive device like a hex, then its green with no bleed over that I can tell, however if there is a red next to the green, the green is then yellow (red+green light = yellow). I guess, its just sloppy design, but if corners cut there, where else are corners cut?
That all said, I'm going to get a 2nd CRS328 as a backup. I have 16 POE devices connected to this replacing a midspan. I'd rather not go back to using a midspan (too many cables). The most important features (do not cut power on OS/firmware upgrades, remote power management, network performance, manageability, etc...) are all there.
Feature request for all POE products:
1. Please add the ability to also graph power usage for the device and per port.
2. Models with redundant power and fans.
