Two LTE miniPCIe-modules not working on RBM33G [BUG]

Thu Jun 28, 2018 12:55 pm

Hello!

For the last few days, I'm trying to access two SIM7600E-H installed in the miniPCIe slots of the RBM33G card. The problem is that the router creates only one serial port for two modems, when there are 2 modules in the list of resources.

This problem was tested by me on two releases of the system:
6.42.5
6.43rc34

[*] The jumper (Load for USB to miniPCIe) from the board was removed.
[*] I previously tried to enter the command "/system routerboard usb set type=mini-PCIe".

Update 02.07.2018.
5 days without reply from the developers, my message was duplicated to the mail: support@mikrotik.com, but there is still no answer.

I found a similar problem on the forum, created back in April 2018:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=133222&p=663477&hil ... 3g#p663477

This problem is of a massive nature and its solution should be immediate, but apparently the developers have a different opinion on this matter.

Update 04.07.2018.
Yesterday, I received a request from technical support to send "Supout.rif". Sent in the reciprocal message on the ticket [Ticket # 2018070222003817], also I post it here.

Update 10.07.2018.
13 days have passed, all that has happened during this time, so this employee of those. support has combined two of my requests:
Your email with ticket number "2018070222003817" is merged to "2018062822003851".
a few minutes later..
This device has limited available USB endpoints.
In initialization process SIM7600E-H take up more than half of available points, that's why only one card can work correctly in Your setup.
Please contact SIM-COMM and discuss possibility of modified firmware that takes up less USB endpoints.

There is a feeling that no one is interested in solving this problem. Since if those support had carefully examined my request, they would have seen that these are two physical sim7600 modules with one port and one channel on one port. What are the end points in question (and their limitations) - it is not clear. Each individual device hangs at its 1-1 address and 1-2 on the bus of the built-in USB-hub 1-0.

It seems that two MikroTik made 4G modems will work fine, but with other manufacturers, it is possible that not all of them will work. We will see how to clarify that in the documentation, or maybe make a list of known and tested 3rd party modules that work fine. For now, until we are certain, I suggest using MikroTik 3G/LTE modems:

Questions:
1. With what it can be connected?
2. And how is this possible to correct?
3. What endpoints did the employee mean. support, when offered to reduce them?
This device has limited available USB endpoints.

How then explain this? - viewtopic.php?t=129142 (dec 2017)

This person also has hardware incompatibility on the same modems that worked in the old version, but for some reason do not work in new versions of routeros?

At the moment it looks like you are deliberately cutting some devices, so that people buy your r11e_lte...

Here is explanation what is USB endpoint

It is not like it was done on purpose, there are limitation of endpoints. LTE card vendors can modify firmware to use less endpoints, then their cards will work too.

We checked this issue one more time and we found out that default stack of 7600e lte card USB emulation takes up 17 USB endpoints from available 32, so coexistence of 2 cards is impossible in default working modes.
However -
Current RC release have additional PID 901b added for this card (custom firmware needed from Simcom) that supports less emulated functionality / endpoint count.
As well as next version will also have other Simcom PIDs available in particular interesting is 9006, that unfortunately has only PPP functionality, but uses only 11 endpoints (can be used for backup/ secondary link together with default PID9001)

Simcom AT comand guide explains usb mode switching, it's done with:
AT+CUSBPIDSWITH=XXXX,1,1

where XXXX - desired PID
9001 for default, 9006 for ppp mode.
Keep in mind that support for 9006 will be added starting from 6.43rc45

Many thanks to "mrz" & "antonsb", your answers were most useful to me!
I sent a request to SIMCOM immediately after you informed me about it.
As soon as they answer, I will inform everyone interested in this topic about the solution offered by the specialists of "SIMCOM".

I would also like to understand how to determine the number of available endpoints of a particular microprocessor installed in the equipment I chose "Mikrotik"?
USB endpoints from available 32

Have the same issues with the same router and modems.
Tried to switch one modem to pid9006 and now can't see this modem as lte interface.
Version 6.46.3
Modem was switched by command from router terminal: "/interface lte at-chat lte2 input="AT+CUSBPIDSWITCH=9006,1,1""
Whats wrong?

Normis, I have (and have had) for some time a RBM33G with dual R11e-LTE-US cards. Factory default everything, on my desk with open support ticket since May of 2019. The last reply from Mikrotik Support (01OCT2019) was that Mikrotik was waiting for a firmware update for the R11.

Can you please shed some light onto why two MIKROTIK R11 connected to a MIKROTIK RBM33G is confirmed working per your post, however support (months after your post) says it does not work, and I cannot get it to work either? Been almost a year this project has been getting delayed.

Hi! I got a custom firmware from Simcom and activated the 901b mode, but the modem does not work. lte interface is created but no ports appear.

but the no ports is not necessery to get internet.
R11e-LTE6 have 0 ports and works.
You probably should do now typical diagnostic... like proper APN, enable logging topic=lte, etc.

If this module can work in MBIM mode then you have a 99% of success on RouterOS v7.
MBIM works for all device and we ROS not must do any support of device, by MBIM ROS support all of them.
Can anyone share the working firmware?
Ask SIMCOM vendor itself.

Hello everyone! I was able to get RBM33G work with Sierra Wireless modem MC7455 ! :D :D :D
Yup, the Sierra chips have less USB endpoints, so they should work with two modems in RMB33G.

Ironically, it's actually 2 x Mikrotik R11e-LTE-US that's actually a problem, but I believe all of the other (more modern) Mikroik modems do work with 2 modems on RBM33G – although I haven't tried them all.
