public IP to fourth AP in a chain

Fri Nov 12, 2004 12:59 pm

hello folks,

what is the easiest way to put public address on fourth or fifth machine in chain with private addresses?

Situation:

AP1 (public range, private 10.x.y.z) -> wireless AP2 (private 10.1.1.1) -> wireless AP3 (private 10.2.1.1) -> wireless AP4 (private 10.3.1.1).

We would like to put public IP to AP4 with private addess 10.3.1.1 - what is the easiest way to do it? Would simple NAT on AP1 manage that for us ? (ie. 10.3.1.1 -> 195.a.b.c)

We use routed, not bridged network. AP4 has to have public ip and 10.3.1.1 (because of clients). Routing for 10.3.1.1 works thru whole network, so it is reachable from any point in the internal network.

thnx, mp3turbo.

one solution would be using NAT on the AP1.
another some kind of tunnel between AP 4 and AP1, e.g. with PPTP.
PPTP could also hand out the public IP-/network-address.

regards.
