Mikrotik to work on DELL Server

Fri Feb 16, 2007 9:34 am

My company bought a dell server and decide to install mikrotik. Turn out mikrotik dont support SATA harddisk. Any recommendations.

I was kinda hoping that mikrotik run in 64 bit mode since we are using Opetron. Is there any Mikrotik X64-bit??

1) is suggest you to read spec. of OS/program you are willing to use and then spend a lot of cash for that.

2) 3.0 beta has native SATA support

3) if you can set some configuration for your sata on your dell something like legacy mode, you might be able to install RouterOS

EDIT:

4) you can try to buy IDE pci card and install IDE HDD

opteron will work fine (and very fast) on both v2.9 and v3. however, they are not specifically optimised for 64bits

Also, based on my personal expirience - there is nothing to win, x86_64 in some applications lose, and in some win, only one good thing - support of big amounts of RAM, which is useless for most applications, except proxy.
Plus most of the drivers have issues with DMA/memory addressing in x86_64, last time if i am not wrong i had issues with Marvell (and it was firmware bug).
