Interface ether accidently removed and I am disconnected.

Sat Jan 05, 2019 5:30 pm

Microtik router has a terrible unwanted feature that if you remove ethernet/ether interface accidently , it abruptly disconnects and loses contact with the user interface and you cannot login to set things right via Lan. The only option left is manual reset. For me the hardware reset is cumbersome as the router is fixed with a mast placed on rooftop for signal strength. In a chilly and snowy winter, with 15 inches snow on roofs, I have stopped now using this mode of internet.
Please convey if there are any other means to restore my equipment.
Regards

Is not a failure, Mikrotik is a kind of router where YOU HAVE total control.
In other ways, normal router=windows, mikrotik=linux

If you do: rm -f / you will DELETE everything.. no trash can.... just you know what to do..

Thanks for a response..
It may not respond to any terminal commands as it is totally disconnected from the windows utility and cannot communicate without Lan interface..

Mikrotik has something called 'Safe Mode', learn how to work with it to avoid cases like these in the future and don't blame Mikrotik if you haven't done your due diligence...

1.Open winbox and try to connect via MAC adress

If you haven't disabled Mac server, router discovery and WINBOX ports, you should be able to log on.

If this does not help, reset router config using Pin on LCD display (default one is 1234) then log via Winbox through MAC address and restore the previous config (unless you do not have a one, you should have at least one autobackup though( if you've updated your software in the past)).

Received your response with thanks..
I cannot connect with Mac address too. Winbox fails to discover router and login fails, what's meant by pins on LCD, will surely use safe mode safety feature once router is reset and I m able to configure it..
But presently I m hung up and can't do anything?

How did you remove ethernet interface from router? Physically? Then I doubt if you can connect to your router :-)
Do you have more eth interfaces? What router it is? Configuration?

He use a CPE on the roof as a router and now he has 15 inches of snow around the CPE :D
Wrong configuration in the wrongest weather

Take a ladder, go on the roof, take down the CPE and hardware reset it. I did it with my WAP R misconfigurated too, but here in Italy there is no snow :D

Ha, ha, right sir, I surely have misconfigured this CPE and there seems no other way but to hardware reset it physically,, Difficulty lies in the fact that roof is too high and its constantly snowing. I have managed a ladder and am waiting for the courage...

Safe mode is a very nice feature.
The other thing I recommend is always config off the bridge where possible.
Take an unused ether port, give it an IP address and done (well ensure it has access to winbox port, included in input chain rules etc).
Then plug into that port with a laptop modify ipv4 settings to be withing that subnet and your in. Safe configuration from here...........independent of bridge or any other ports!!
