Which Router should i buy for a small web hosting company?

Wed Jan 16, 2019 1:44 pm

Hi

I am kinda newbie in this networking world. I want to ask what router will be good for a small but growing Web hosting company? Right now the company has 1 Rack with 20 servers colocated in a Datacentre and using 30 Mbps Bandwidth. But the company wants to use their own IPv4 Address and ASN. Also, the company has a plan to upgrade the router ones it will reach up to 3-5 racks (Maybe Within 2 years).

So which router will be suitable for this type of business?

Regards
CR

It will depend on the amount of traffic + amount of processing of that traffic. If you only need a firewall and not more than 100mbit of traffic, any MikroTik device will do.

I am just here to say that your requirements are not well defined or thorough enough for anyone to give an accurate answer, a rough swag yes.
Just my opinion!
Will any logging be required?
Will any reporting be required?
Will there be any fail over or power failure work arounds (transfer of traffic from other sites to your site for example)?
I dont have a clue what ASN means but do you mean firewall or spam or other services will be covered by different devices?
What are the security/cybersecurity requirements?
What are the admin control and access requirements?
What are the expected uses of the servers (email, browsing, gaming, streaming?? goes to load besides number of users and complexity of traffic)
What are the services and throughputs expected from the ISP
How many ISPs will serve the centre? (How many physical lines for each).

and this is from someone who has no IT clues or experience. I bet a real IT procurement experienced individual could come up with much more populated list or better targeted questions.

Sorry for the late reply and Thanks for your answer.

The traffic is not that much. it will be between 100mbit to 200mbit for Now.

I was looking for RB3011UiAS-RM or RB1100AHx4, What do you suggest?

Thanks again

I have the RG450Gx4 and very happy with that. It can handle my 1gig service and I dont need it to do wifi.

RB1100AHx4 very robust and can move a lot of data - i'd go one of them.
