How to fail over using 2 WANs on two different stations

Thu Jan 17, 2019 1:31 pm

Hi,
I have 2 routers. They are connected only via WiFi and share the same net. Here are the details:
* R1 is in mode station bridge and is connected to DSL on ETH1. All works well when clients use it as gateway
* R2 is in mode ap bridge and has LTE stick in the USB. Again everything works well when clients is it as gateway

I have some servers connected via eth on both routers and everything works perfect. Nothing special in the routing, it's practically vanilla.

I want to have the wan on R2 as the default so in the dhcp config I configure R2 to be the client gateway. I can't figure out how to automatically fail over to R1's wan when he LTE ot R2 is down.

I have added route on R2 so that R2 can ping R1 wan gateway IP, but when I add default gateway rule on R2 it says the R1 wan gateway is not reachable.

On client pc when pinging R1 wan gateway I get this:
>ping 192.168.0.1
PING 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1): 56 data bytes
