ip phone and/or audio headset attached to Mikrotik

Thu Jan 31, 2019 1:37 am

Update: I did go with a voip box + passive noise cancelling closed ear headset.

Original Post:

Hello I have several small sites built out that are only 10-15U in a single cabinet in different places around the world. They all have Mikrotik as the primary management switch. One thing I really have a hard time dealing with is working with remote hands at all these various sites. Has anyone found a good IP noise cancelling headset to plug into the Mikrotik (assume all sites have internet access and DHCP). I would like to leave a corded (long cord) headset sitting in each of these cabinets on a hook for the remote hands folks to use while they are working for both their sanity and mine. Note that in some cases the remote hands folks are in dead cell phone zones, which makes certain projects that require a lot of input and assistance from me to go from 2 hours to 14 hours or more (a mini-nightmare). Was debating something perhaps from 3M/Peltor ( https://pack-n-tape.com/Peltor-TM-Communications/ ) combined with some kind of IP phone driver module, but I'm sure someone here has come across a more elegant all-in-one just works when you plug it in RJ45. It need not actually use a phone number (could be some kind of point to point audio call over the internet) but am open to phone number based solutions as well. Be creative as you like, the only constraints are having a human being on the other side being able to hear me and me being able to hear them, without having to worry about battery replacements.

Thanks for the input!

Bump. Nobody has used voip solutions with Mikrotik or other audio solutions to assist in two-way communication from remote site to remote site? (does everyone always really have a clean mobile signal available?) For example I've had installations of Mikrotik underground as well that have no cell phone service.

Thanks!

How about a network security camera with remote audio.
Something like a NETGEAR Arlo Q Plus POE security camera.

Thanks for the idea - I like it but only if they support a nice external headset which it doesn't look like that or other products I was flipping through did. If you come across one that does support an external headset though that is a great fit.

I would setup a PBX like FreePBX on one site or anywhere you like really.
On all others sites create rules on your MTs to only allow connections from a list of your sites to the PBX
Use a VoIP phone that can be mounted vertically like https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/ ... index.html
To me, those devices dampen the ambient sound quite nicely and have a feature called Handset Input Gain that can go as low as -6 dB

I was thinking a traditional VoIP phone with a headset too. The only downside is needing a server to drive the VoIP. That said for a single phone you could bolt something onto an existing server or even a Raspberry Pi like device.

If memory serves me correctly Axis makes an IP camera that has both headphone and mic support.
