What he is saying is DO NOT BOTHER marking packets. Waste of time!!
Use Mark connections!! What happens when you state mark connections, the router upon detecting a connection that meets the criteria automatically marks all the packets without having to inspect each packet. Much lighter load on CPU.

first you mark the connection and then mark the packets.
when you mark connection, you mark only the NEW connection so that you don't keep marking connections which are already marked. You will use this connection mark to mark packets.
So your mark connection packet stats will be way less than packet mark stats (probably way less than what you have shown)
This is my HTTP mark connections 13.9MB while my packet marks is 14.9GB
