MIKROTIK AS OLT

Sun Apr 28, 2019 10:42 pm

Code: Select all

As the topic describes, Mikrotik as OLT. Its been 2 years ago or may be more that Mikrotik Introduced GPON ONU module (which is now no more listed on routerboard site) which worked well for alot of people. Afyer 2 years now when FTTH became a very normal thing for ISPs, I want to confirm that can we use GEPON SFP module from any third party like ACCTON, C-DATA or any other, on our CCR1036 and make that port to work as OLT? On end user we want to use the same third party products.

Quick Response will be appriciated.

Mikrotik makes GPON SFP modules. Not to be confused with GEPON (also called EPON) technology.
GPON ONU work as end terminal device. Simply inserting them into switch will not make that port to work as an OLT.

Please check this link which describes GPON technology:

Example of popular OLTs made by Huawei: MA5608T or EA5801

Is possible as ONT, not OLT, with the discontinued GPON module and others.

Regards.
