DHCPv6 op 79 - Client Link-Layer Address Option

Mon Jun 17, 2019 11:05 am

Hello, I'm not able to find any documentation about DHCP relay/server option 79 - Client Link-Layer Address Option. Are plans to implement this function? RFC is from 2013 and the biggest company have this feature implemented (juniper, hpe, cisco,....).

Options looks useful and not very hard to implement.

Still waiting for RFC 6939.

Without this, IPv6 is unmanageable in RouterOS.

Some client/home-users routers are in a very broken state and they somehow re-generate their DUID all the time, causing /56 pool to be exhausted in 1 hour or less.

Did you not see? I believe they have just added it: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=152003

That's only for DHCPv6 Relay, which is not helpful at all for most people. I just want to make DHCPv6 reservations based on link-layer adress.

Also it's only RouterOS 7, which is beta, and it's not for my platform (powerpc, RB1100AHx2).

It is available for powerpc since beta 3, but I wouldn't recommend using it in production.
