Feature Request (Higher QAM Modulations)

Fri Sep 13, 2019 4:07 pm

Normis what would be the possibility of MikroTik adding 1024-QAM or even adding 4096-QAM modulations in to future releases for Radios and Routerboards to the market as both Ubiquiti and Mimosa have done in recent months with their newer product lines. We would really love to use less spectrum and give even higher throughput's to our customers and especially to our bridges at these locations as our regions 5Ghz band is starting to get scarce and overly populated.

Thanks,

Mikrotik doesn't use any custom radios (like Airfiber, custom FPGA based), doesn't even use enhanced versions of some radio chipsets like other manufacturers do (enhanced versions have features like spectrum scan and modulation phase plane display, also non-standard higher order modulations, custom bandwidths, etc...).
So unless these modulations appear supported by commercial QCAxxxx chips, don't expect them available in Mikrotik gear... that said, there are first 802.11ax (non-draft) chips available now from Qualcomm that do have 1024-QAM support, so maybe after a year and a bit, MIkrotik may announce a device with it and have it available for order after another year of silence...
