Android phones as lte modems - compatibility and roadmap

Fri Sep 20, 2019 7:37 pm

Hello.

I saw the USB peripherials list and it is based on exact cellular modem devices.
But I use my mobile as usb tethering device time to time, and it is an issue with some (new) models to use USB tethering, RB just didn't recognize the phone as lte device.
I expect lte here as some other Qualcomm-based phones are always detected as lte.
Right now I use it as WI-FI tethering (phone AP + RB client), but it looks weird a bit.

Dear developers, do you have plans to update usb lte device list or drivers for phones? I am not sure what it needs exactly to be updated to extend supported devices list...

I am personally interested in Nokia 7.1 (Qualcomm SDM636 Snapdragon 636 chipset) phone support, my "mobile" RB is RB951Ui-2HnD ROs 6.45.6.
Device connection in Ubuntu 18.04.3 looks like:

usb 2-1.4: new high-speed USB device number 31 using ehci-pci
usb 2-1.4: New USB device found, idVendor=0489, idProduct=c022
usb 2-1.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 2-1.4: Product: Nokia 7.1
usb 2-1.4: Manufacturer: HMD Global
usb 2-1.4: SerialNumber: CTLGAP18A1308837
rndis_host 2-1.4:1.0 usb0: register 'rndis_host' at usb-0000:00:1d.0-1.4, RNDIS device, 16:4c:d1:ea:3c:7h
rndis_host 2-1.4:1.0 enp0s29u1u4: renamed from usb0

Regards,
Vitaly.
