Cameras behind 2 mikrotiks and home router

Sat Sep 28, 2019 12:53 am

Hello, I have not messed with customer cameras until now.

Basically, network is laid out like this:
Internet---Mikrotik gateway (nat happens here - everything past is private IPs)---PTP wireless link---2nd Mikrotik (doing DHCP to customers)---Ubiquiti AP---Ubiquiti M5(router mode and NAT)---customers router---Camera (Wanscam)

I need to be able to access customers camera from internet. I have it working plugged into my gateway router using a private IP , I just enter the router IP and the port, and it shows up.

However, accessing the customer camera at his location is not working.

I would love some directions here. Thank you.

First, do you have access to your last router ?

Get a camera that connects outbound to some cloud service, where the customer can connect to that cloud service and view/control their camera.
Allowing inbound access to cameras is so 2010...

I agree with pe1chl. This is the easiest thing you can do, but since we talk about networking i didn't mention it.

It appears that the Wanscam cameras can also do it.
This will work without modification to your network, and is the way to go when you have such a multiple-NAT network.

Well, I understand everyone's recommendations to cloud serve this, it probably would be an easier solution. However, I really want to know how to make this work like I originally asked for future reference.

It really isn't practical to have inbound connections in a triple-NAT network like that.
You should at least remove the middle NAT (in the Ubiquiti).

Understood. I now have the Ubnt at the remote end bridged instead.

Then you can setup the usual dstnat to "forward a port" in /ip firewall nat
It may require a /ip firewall filter rule too (not required when you run the default firewall which already handles that).
Of course you need to do that in every NAT router along the path, and it will be difficult to do for more than one user at a time as you can forward each port only to one ultimate destination.

The only Mikrotik's doing NAT are now my gateway router, and his home router. I am waiting to get his open/forward commands to see if they are correct or not.

The columns his router shows:

External port, internal port, Internal IP address, protocol, Source IP

example:
15000,15000,10.0.0.10, both, (no source IP entered - is this needed? - if so, which router IP do I put there?

Ask in the forum that covers that brand of router??/
I'd rather manage rats than software. Follow my advice at your own risk! (Sob & mkx forced me to write that!)

I actually now have it partly working - I can now access the customers camera locally from both his router and my office. However, we still cannot access it from outside of my network. I can access the test camera attached to my gateway router from outside my network, but not his camera.

What am I missing?
