simple queue doesn't work when traffic inside same network

Wed Apr 18, 2007 3:27 pm

clients on wlan0
uplink on wlan1

wlan0: 172.16.1.1/24
wlan1: 172.16.2.1/24

users can access internet, routed over wlan1

shaping works for everything that is outside, routed over wlan1

shaping doesn't work when users download between each other. while watching simple queues traffic i can see no traffic, even though i had scp copy from 172.16.1.2 to 172.16.1.3.

Am i the only one with this problem?

simple queue example:

name="user1" target-addresses=172.16.1.3/32 dst-address=0.0.0.0/0 interface=all parent=none direction=both priority=8
queue=wireless-default/wireless-default limit-at=256000/256000 max-limit=256000/256000 total-queue=wireless-default

Traffic among users in the same IP range does not even reach router so it cannot deal with it.

clients for same ip doesnt need the gateway which means it replicate with each other without the need of the router ,

for your situtation you need to assign for each client a subnet of 30 bit

client 1
/ip address add address=192.168.1.1/30 interface=local
client 2
/ip address add address=192.168.2.1/30 interface=local

now both clients needs the router to communicate with each other ,
this situation reduce traffic on the network ,
