MPLS - what will you use it for?

Sun Apr 22, 2007 9:45 am

i've seen the MPLS-feature on top of the wishes list.

i am wondering what do people like to achieve with MPLS? Connecting WLAN to fat MPLS backbone to switch labels with customers or ISPs?

personally i am interested in the MPLS ability to build up fully meshed networks with different services (e.g. VPLS) and its QoS-features for advanced services (e.g. VoIP)

I would use MPLS (if I had all the devices in network MPLS ready) to create VPN links for customers (i.e transparent interconnection between offices)

Perhaps not a helpful answer to the question but it's very true:

As an MT OEM many end customers are putting out tenders that insist on MPLS as a "required feature" (rightly or wrongly) for service-provider type networks. We don't have control over that process, i.e. usually the tender is already written by the time it arrives.

If we don't have the feature, we (or our partners) can't bid, or have to find another solution to put boxes together with MPLS.
However, I'm not the end customer.
