Sun May 06, 2007 5:45 pm

Hi
a have a two networks, two MT.
1MT have pptp connection to 2MT
How to make - workstations from network1 to be visible /to have connections/ with workstations from network2 and back

I can establish pptp conection from MT1 to MT2 and it is working but how to set up transparent conections between workstations from network1 to workstation from network2 - and back

A PPTP interface will not work as a member of a bridge. Only ethernet-like interfaces should be put in a bridge.
You can establish a PPTP tunnel for authentication and encryption between two MikroTik devices just like you already did, but then you also need to configure an EoIP tunnel on top of the PPTP tunnel (using the PPTP endpoint addresses as endpoint addresses of the EoIP tunnel) so that you'll have a transparent layer 2 connection between both routers. The EoIP interfaces on both routers may then be bridged with other LAN interfaces on the routers and this will work, but do not bridge directly to the PPTP interfaces!

Its so simple :

- make pptp connection on both mt
- make bridge interface on both mt
- make eoip interface on both mt and use pptp ip for eoip remote-address
- put eoip and local-ethernet on the same bridge on each mt

i hope it can solve your problems :D

can multi clients connected to 1 server can also see each other and ping all different subnet? exmple client1,2,3,4,5 can ping each other?

Yes, all clients can ping each other.
If you have different subnet on the client side, you must use router for the VPN client and configure the routing on each router so they can connect each of the subnets.

Just make a PPTP connection between the two MT routers. Go to the MT1 router and under /interface eoip and create a new eoip tunnel (e.g. /interface eoip add name=link1-2 remote-address=10.1.1.1 tunnel-id=23). Go to MT2 and add name=link2-1 remote-address=10.1.1.2 tunnel-id=23. The tunnel ID must be the same also change IP adresses for your scenario.
One you've done an EOIP tunnel, simply create a bridge on both routers and include the newly created eoip tunnel with phisycal adapters. This is it.

p.s.

Don't try to bridge PPTP tunnel with anything, because you can't, it doesn't work that way.

Let me resurrect semi-dead topic and react to advice provided:

- make pptp connection on both mt
- make bridge interface on both mt
- make eoip interface on both mt and use pptp ip for eoip remote-address
- put eoip and local-ethernet on the same bridge on each mt

guys, I noticed it so many times here in forum : you have phenomenal gift from heaven to COMPLICATE THINGS SUCH UTTERLY it's galaxies beyond my wildest imagination and - I really apologize - any sane logic. I would never be able to create such complicated stupid thing as you described here. Quite often I wonder "how many things and functionality from Mikrotik has not been used", you probably miss VLANs here and bonding that will make it even more complicated. What about GRE IPIP OpenVPN on top of EOIP ?

Good luck with any troubleshooting in case something goes wrong.
Good luck with broadcast/multicast/unicast packets, packet storms potentially caused by storms, improper settings on one side of this puzzle.

Dammit.

What about getting rid of bridging and using simple proper routing instead ? You have two distinct networks with workstations, you have two "endpoints" that directly can see each other - because you have one PPTP interface with one IP address on each side. What more do you need ?!?!?!?! Does it really require a genius combined with multi-Nobel prize winner ?

Keep it simple, stupid ! USROX provided correct and the only VIABLE advice for connecting five sites together. What would you do with FIVE sites ? Create five eoip tunnels, create five bridges on top ? How would you add physical ethernet of router to five bridges at the same time, following the advice "put eoip and local-ethernet on the same bridge on each mt" ?
