The hotel is out of rooms at the block rate. Please negotiate an additional block. The room goes from $149 to $247/night. That is a bit steep and not many are going to pay this much. I also would implore you to add Friday to the block so attendees can attend the entire MUM event and check out Friday morning.
I want to attend MUM but not at the room rates currently available.

Hmm, don't travel much?? No one who books for trips normally books the rooms for the night AFTER meetings are finished. They would be perhaps if meetings were scheduled into the night for example.
In other words, you should book a flight out Thursday Night or stay on your own dime Thursday Night and fly out Friday morning. Nothing wrong with the practice of two nights here at all.

I have already looked at the Drury, looks nicer than the Marriott. But it is a 1/3 of a mile walk and if the weather is nice, then OK, if not...
I agree to some extent with the extra night, however, flying out at night after a long day is no fun.

Concur but when its on my dime, I save money for fun stuff, so if you had a purpose to some fun stuff on Friday then it may be worth it.
Not familiar with Kansas City, perhaps getting mugged or shot at would be exhilarating.............
7 minute walk if daunting means you have much more severe problems then a few dollars. If its pouring rain take a cab.

I am not a betting man but I would be VERY VERY surprized if the MUM in Prague actually takes place.
Based on what happened with the Coronavirus in Italy, it wont be long before Germany and Austria are in crisis and it will spread quickly throughout.
I am starting to think we are handling this pandemic wrong. Its not a matter of IF, its a matter of WHEN you get infected.
Thus why not all of us ON purpose get it over with..... Get sick and the whole world in a month will be free and clear to travel have the olympics etc etc etc.
Otherwise this will go on for some time in a chaotic way. 2% are going to die one way or another and a vaccine is 12-18 mos away supposedly.

Switzerland just banned all events attracting 1000 people or more until the 15th of March.
The GIMS has been simply cancelled, not just postponed. Booths already built and cars shipped. Geneva will lose 200-250 million euro.
Baselworld moved from April to January 2021. Geneva watch fair cancelled.

Agreed. Don't overlook VRBO/HomeAway as well. Have used them before in cases of "sold-out function hotel" with fine results.
