RB951G-2HnD, ether port is going up and down

Thu Oct 01, 2020 12:25 am

Hello world,

I own RB951 for ~4 years, working like charm. Few months ago I finally fixed wires so my desktop is on metallic, running without any problem. 5 days ago I upgraded to 6.47.4 and was fine until earlier today - all of the sudden wired connection was gone - without any action on the router. After long troubleshooting, downgrading, loading old and older configurations backup, upgrading back to 6.47.4, I was able to use only ether2-master port. As far as I can tell, 2 and remaining ones are configured in the same way; before that malfunction, no change at all (firewall, dhcp,...).
While I'm kind of happy that I can use at least ether2, I'd love to know what might happening. Router is not in dusty environment with good ventilation, temperatures (hand checked) seems just normal.. perhaps it's just dying?

Below is part of the log file, with zero activity on my side - just looking for answers in other threads on different computer.

Could be that power adapter is playing games. Try to replace it with a new one. Supplied one is 12V 1A, but can be 24V 0.5A and anything in between.

Per mkx advice I replaced power adaptor, but since this morning, it's happening again. No change to configuration, no router physically touching including cables. Sometimes I get connection (this mornign distant e-learning was just fine), after booting up main computer (metallic connection) bad luck again. No matter if I get old or new power adaptor.

Any thoughts are highly appreciated, as always.

Update: I connected notebook via ethernet to router port. Desktop, that was idle got connection and remains stable. Mind blowing. I'd still love to understand what is going on.

So to summarize:
Earlier today, wired connectivity is fine. Wifi too.
Bit later, without desktop reboot, router touching,.. wired connectivity is gone. Switching to other ports on ethernet failed (Up and within few seconds down)
Recently, connected notebook to other port with ethernet - both desktop and notebook get wired connection.

Apparently connectors and wires (from ether5 to wall socket, from wall socket to desktop) are fine.
Power adapter seems irrelevant - In the last week, both were changed and used.
