Hi All,
I got word that my ISP will soon be enforcing data caps and will change for overages at a rate of $10 for each 50 GB. This will kick in when my monthly usage exceeds 1.2 TB which sounds like a lot however I checked my recent usage which has increased a lot recently. While it was around 500 GB /month in the summer the last couple of months I have used a bit over 1200 GB both months and this month looks like the same if not a bit more. So it seems like I am right at the point where I might be charged for extra data unless I can reduce my usage a bit. In order to reduce usage I need to figure out which devices on my local network are using the most data. I spent some time today looking at my options...
I took a look at https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:IP/Traffic_Flow and installed ntopng on an Oracle Linux server and played around however it seems a bit much for what I need and also I could not figure out how to get the information I want. I also took a quick look at https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:IP/Accounting which looks promising. I could pretty easily set something up on Linux to grab the data and process it a bit to get what I need however I noticed some people making the comment that the data is not so accurate. Is anyone using /ip accounting for this purpose and if so does it work reasonably well? Is there some better way WAN data usage per IP from RouterOS?
Thanks,
Ken.
