RouterOS vs Cisco to terminate L2TP for ISP providing DSL

Sat Jan 01, 2005 5:58 pm

Hi,
We have a small ISP and currently are looking at implementing DSL with our local ILEC.

The ILEC recommend we have a cisco router to terminate L2TP sessions.

These sessions are coming through L2TP from an ATM interface.

Could we use a PC running RouterOS to do this?

How would your product compare to using a cisco.

We auth our clients using openradius currently.

Any experiences would be appreciated.

We are looking for P2P shaping and control also.

How many users could we support with your solution?

Is there a redundant setup that you could recommend.

I realize I have asked many questions, thank you in advance.

Kind regards,
Gilbert.

if the connection is ATM, it will be necessary to terminate ATM on your equipment. i havent seen this ability within RouterOS (nor hardware, neither software).
if the connection is ethernet, it should be possible with RouterOS.

there is of course other equipment then cisco to terminate ATM (e.g. lucent)
