Fast Path - Questions

Sun Apr 25, 2021 1:55 pm

Hi,

I read a bit about Fast Path and Fast Track.
What I found so far, Fast Track (Conn Tracking) requires Fast Path to work.

But Fast Path depends on (amongst other):
  • firewal rules are not configured;
  • firewall address lists are not configured;
  • Simple and queue trees with parent=global are not configured;
  • connection tracking is not active;
  • bridge VLAN filtering is disabled,

Is my understanding correct, that if only one of the points statet above are met, Fast Path will not work (and implied Fast Track too)?
I'd assume that 99.99% of all routers will then not work with FP/FT, because they use at least a few firewall-filter-rules?

The MT documentation is vague (https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Fast_Path).
They write "fast path is automatically used if...". OK, but is the a manual thing as well, if their automatic fails? And does eg. "firewal rules" means all firewall rules? Or only filter and not mangle...?

Fast-track depends on fast-path being enabled. Manual says nothing about fast-path being active.

OTOH I don't think fast-path provides much of a boost. HW offload clearly does and fast-track does as well. So I wouldn't bother about fast-path too much.
