can I replace a RB3011with an RB201 ?

Fri May 21, 2021 1:37 am

I have a RB3011 that I suspect is failing.

I have a spare RB201 and want it to replace RB3011.

Both have 10 Ethernet ports, so my question is

? what is the main diference between them ?

I know the "basic" diferences :

RB201 has 128 MB of RAM, one CPU 600 MHz
RB3011 has 1 GB RAM and 2 CPUs at 1,4 GHz

Thanks.

It's a 2011, it's just that the font used on the front panel is weird :)

The switch chip used for ports ether6-ether10 only has FastEthernet (100 Mbit/s) ports and some other limitations that may not limit you at all.

Besides being weaker, the CPU also doesn't support IPsec encryption in hardware.

So depending on the amount of traffic you need to handle (typically the bandwidth of your uplink is most important) and whether you use queues to prioritize traffic and whether you use IPsec, the 2011 may or may not cope with the tasks.

Just pick up two hapac2 routers for cheap and use one as a router and one as a switch if you need extra ports.

As I dont use encryption neither queues, the main diference for me is the ETH speed
Thanks a lot

I dont know what is a "hapac2 router"
Google leads me to "hap_ac2" - https://mikrotik.com/product/hap_ac2
But this is not in the line of my question

Thanks anyway
