24v PSU failure

Sat May 29, 2021 8:27 pm

Hi All.

We now have 30 failed PSUs out of 300. This is a significant failure rate for mikrotik products....

It's also a pain. As it costs more to run a psu out than what it's worth.

Batch numbers we're seeing are,

2006
2004
1906

Does anyone else have issues?

The customers are based all over the UK. They report the psu getting super hot when in the failed state.

MT state I should install surge protectors.
A. Tried this and they still fail.
B. Why... nothing else fails. Including ubnt psu bricks.

1200ma 24v. The unit that's shipped with the HAP acs

We now have over 40 units failed. Different parts of the country, different times.

It's a right pain and embarrassment.

It's almost like they can't poe the nano loco. Even though they state enough power for 500ma.

I think the HAP AC uses about 60% of the capacity of the PSU at peak, leaving less than 500 mA left for POE out under best circumstances.

So this was my thinking.

But.... The two devices we use are

Nano loco ac

Ufiber media converter

Both only require 8.5 Watts

Power (watts):
8.5

Voltage (volts):
24

Current (amps):
0.354167

Even with 500ma usage plus the 400ma from the loco, plus a 100ma loss. That still leaves 200ma spare. You would assume the socket will have a 10% tolerance.

I just can't understand it. We never ever had issues with the previous generation of psu.

These new ones are horrific. My only other thought, is

A. Hap is using more energy that specified.
B. PSU is not producing 1200ma

Any recommendations to stress testing them and getting kikrotikntonsort this rubbish out.

Apart from this, we have no bother. Ever with this setup.

I have the same issues. My CCR1036 r1 (with only one PSU), purchased around 2018, this past Saturday just failed again in its fourth times.

2018-2024, CCR1036 failed it's PSU fourth time. CCR1036 is a faulty designed product, and i would like to call for a return and replace the faulty product with CCR1036 r2 with 2 PSU and not recommend anyone to use Mikrotik products on serious production line.

I have not had any failures - for whatever that's worth. I'm not trying to power anything from any of my hAPs however.

Have you actually measured the current draw - as opposed to just reading specs?

At its peak, the HAP AC utilizes approximately 56% of the PSU's capacity, leaving under 500 mA available for POE output under optimal conditions.
