RouterOS Detect Client IP by Interface?

Fri Jul 02, 2021 5:31 am

Hi MikroTik enthusiasts,
I'm new to Mikrotik (coming from ubiquity personally, and working at the OSI layer 1 in a cisco/arista environment) and I'm currently in the "Knows enough to be dangerous" level of learning about networking. At my job as a technical support person on a broadcast television truck, a somewhat frequent occurrence is: a device is shipped in from a different broadcast truck and I need to change the IP to the IP scheme of my truck's network (everything is static).

The problem is, I often have no idea what the device's IP was previously set to. So I'm looking at Wireshark and Angry IP Scanner/Advanced net scanner trying to find the device's IP.... and I'm wondering if there may be a better way.

Is it possible to use the MAP lite (or any other Mikrotik device) to plug into the device in question, and look somewhere in router OS to see the IP address of the device on the interface/port?

If not, how would you go about solving this problem efficiently?

I look forward to learning from the Mikrotik community,
Thanks,
