Route IGMP join packets

Thu Jul 15, 2021 8:34 pm

Hello,

I have a MikroTik CRS326-24G-2S+RM (RouterOs 6.45.9) and have defined the following using the web interface:
- A bridge br01 (ports 21 & 23) with IGMP snooping enabled
- A bridge br02 (ports 9 & 11) with IGMP snooping enabled
- Address 192.168.1.1/24, network 192.168.1.0 assigned to br01
- Address 192.168.2.1/24, network 192.168.2.0 assigned to br02
- PIM-SM enabled for "all" interfaces (the default bridge, br0, br1) (IGMPv3)

With the above setup the CRS326-24G-2S+RM works like a charm, happily routing between the hosts on the 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24 networks and also routing multicast traffic between the 2.

I should also note that MPEG-TS video streaming over RTP and plain UDP works fine as well when using a PC with VLC as the stream source on one of the networks and a PC with VLC on the other network.

My problem is that I have a "camera" (actually it is a computer with an attached camera) which streams video, but the video stream is enabled only when there are "subscribers" for the video stream, i.e. the computer monitors the IGMP join messages for the stream and once it detects at least 1x IGMPv3 subscriber for the multicast group it enables the stream and as far as I can tell, the MikroTik router uses the IGMP messages to build its MRIB entries but does not forward them between networks.

Another thing I should note is that if I e.g. use a PC with a VLC instance on the same subnet, e.g. 192.168.1.0, (which sends an IGMP subscription which reaches the camera), the stream gets enabled and the video is received by both the VLC instance on the same subnet and the VLC instance on the other subnet(192.168.2.0).

Does anyone know if there is a way to tell the CRS326-24G-2S+RM to route the IGMP membership messages (at least the join messages) when using PIM-SM?
