New product idea

Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:31 am

I notice Mikrotik have ethernet over power products now. Recently I hacked a pair of these from a different vendor to turn them into "ethernet over DC Power". This involved removing the circuit board, un-soldering the 240V circuit and powering them from 12V. This was really useful for running a connection out to my garage as there was an old unused phone line between my house and garage. The distance was about 70m and I was able to get a solid speed of 100mbit which was the limit of the device anyway. The remote device was powered over the same pair. This might seem like an obscure product but products like this do exist, they just cost $300+. Also most of the work would be done, it would just require a modification of the existing product. This might also be useful for people wanting to exceed the 100m limit of ethernet cable. What are people's thoughts?
