What typical changes do you make to AP box default configuration?

For example hap ac.
Disable logging so NAND flash has a longer lifecycle.
Add upgrade script for automatic upgrade - https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:U ... to-upgrade

Also what if the AP is the second or a third AP in the household/office. Any common changes you make there? Some routing optimization? Turn RSTP off? etc.

The "turning RSTP off" is not the best idea if more than on Ethernet port remains in the bridge. Instead, set edge=yes on the /interface bridge port rows for the wireless interfaces to get rid of the delay when the first client associates to a given wireless interface after the interface was idling.

If you plan to deploy multiple Mikrotik APs in the house, configuring all of them via CAPsMAN right from the start may make sense, as that way you configure everything in a single place and you just plug in the rest of the APs, booting them into cAP mode using the reset button (and once they register with the CAPsMAN one, you change their name so that the configuration got saved and they come up as cAPs also after the next power-up).

Oh this is a very good suggestion. Will implement it asap. Any other suggestions?

One other change i make on my home router is to set the DHCP lease time for 1 day. I also update the "Group key update" under wifi security profile for 1 hour.
Of course all APs are set to different non-overlaping channels such as 1,6,11 on 2.4 GHz wifi.

Also reseting connection tracking values seems to make things more stable with UDP traffic according to this blog post: https://www.daryllswer.com/edge-router- ... -for-isps/

Don't disable connection tracking on your main router though like the blog says.
