Which m2 lte/5G modems are RoS compatible?

Tue Aug 31, 2021 10:23 am

This page has very old models, https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Peripherals I am almost sure that all quectel modems are ros compatible, but they are very expensive, have bugs and quectel support is very bad.
On the other hand, there are cheap modems like fibocomm , telit , dell etc that could replace them; anyone who has tested modems, or knows where to find a compatibility list could report it in this post and it would be a great help.

I have only used Mikrotik branded modems, either R11E-LTE-US or R11E-LTE6. Both have worked really well for me.

New docs page has a list as well, I haven’t compared it to the list on the wiki but it might have some updated entries.

The new docs page isn’t complete yet, but it’s worth checking alongside the wiki for information. https://help.mikrotik.com/docs

thanks deadkat,
i found other interesting models.
I think that the problem of many unsupported modules is that of limited space in ros, but you could create versions with only sierra drivers or only quectel or only telit to make them compatible with any hardware.

Telit, Quectel, some Sierra.
Quectel is most supported becase MikroTik go into SoC from them.
Better is found what wersion of m.2 card you are interested and then search them in forum.

I would be interested in these two modems simcomm SIM8200EA-M2 (290€) and especially foxconn T99W175 (189€) .
I have written to retailers but they can't tell me if they are compatible with Ros and quectel 5G modules have crazy prices!

simcomm maybe will be work or can be added to ROS.
foxcomm we try and they cannot share manuals etc... we not use them until all documentation and win drivers will be provided before.

AliExpress or buy directly in USA (Quectel in USA have better price then AliE).

but in the LHG LTE18 there is a very good quectel EG18 , which works perfectly with ros7. Why do you want to change it? you would lose in performance , automatic firmware update and manufacturer warranty.

Three simple reasons:
foxconn t99w175 have 5G,eSIM,beter carrier aggregation

Did it work? I have ordered an LHGG but I already have this modem and I would like to know if the upgrade works

  • t99w175 works only in PCI mode so it is unsuitable to be mounted on routerboards.
  • Keep the LHG lte18 with its original module from ros7 you can directly update the modem firmware.
  • The performance of lte18 is amazing ,then with a 5G modem you should add another 2/4 auxiliary antennas is not easy.

To be fair, i have to make it clear that I don’t own the CAT18 LHGG but the CAT6 so i could use some upgrade here.

It seems odd that the T99W175 wouldn’t work as the DW5821e is listed on the supported modems and it’s very similar to the one I am talking about.

I don’t mind about the 2 more antennas it needs to work, it’s an easy modification for me.

However if you’re 100% sure this modem doesn’t support the usb protocol I won’t event try it. I’ve seen some sellers listing it as supported by MBIM via USB. So I don’t know what to believe anymore.

I was also interested in the modem t99w175 but after several searches , I had found information that it must be unlocked and that it does not work with the usb mode.
https://www.rework.network/products/t99 ... vo-flex-5g
Should try it costs 70 euros on aliexpress ; it has a snapdragonx55 chip that I already have on EM160 really powerful .

I have it 6 months now on openwrt in a thin client and it works perfectly. I also use it with an xpol antenna however I would like to get another one to upgrade my LHGG as it’s painfully slow. We have N78 here and it’s definitely worth it.

I guess then my only options are some Quectel modems

Which variant of the modem did you buy? I have the HP one. So it was plug and play with the RB?

Please make it clear that you made it work with the T99W175 as you quoted many messages and it’s not clear to me
