Super channel available frequencies

Thu Aug 23, 2007 5:41 am

I started fooling around with super-channel recently. What I dont I understand is how come for cards such as NMP-8602 and CM-9 there are frequency available that are outside of the manufacturers' spec ? Case in point , the available frequency from NMP-8602 spec sheets are :
802.11a
5.15~5.35GHz,
5.47~5.725GHz,
5.725~5.825GHz

But in RoS with super-channel feature, the available frequency are :
802.11a
4.92~6.12Ghz

Are the available frequencies determined by the ROS or the radio card chipsets ? Will the frequencies outside the manufacturer's spec actually work ?

Why do we still need a super channel license for 5.4 in the US? I thought that the frequency was recently unlicensed.

I'm guessing MT doesn't have the newest DFS compatibility and would be illegal to use in the US in that frequency. So far, Moto and Alvarion have been certified but other companies are playing catch up. I'll wait.

We work on 5.9-6.4 GHz frequency band using appropriate sector antennas and parabolic dishes. But we don’t use superchannels. We use 2.4 GHz <-> 5.9-6.4 GHz frequency converters.
