CRS317 10G port to 1G speed issues

Tue Nov 09, 2021 1:29 pm

Hi all, looking for some guidance here, we use CRS317's (Running ROS not SWOS) for circuit aggregation, 1G SFP facing customers and 1 x 10G SFP uplink to CCR router. Most customers have 100mbps to 300mbps products and all seems to work well. HW offload works fine even with high traffic loads the CPU is practically idle.
Recently we started selling a 1000mbps service on a 1G port however the best speed test customers get is around 400mbps max. If I bypass the switch and plug the 1G circuit straight into the CCR, they get 900mbps up and down. I have read on the forums of users having issues with traffic between 10G and 1G port on the 317's, did this ever get fixed? I have seen this on early Ubiquiti switches something to do with buffer size, hope Mikrotik are not also suffering from this.

Any pointers appreciated!

Thanks

W

Is the slowness only on the customers download/receiving speed but not the upload/send?

If so, I would set an egress rate limit on the port to see if that addresses the issue for you.

It appears to be a duplex restriction, but I will double check. So recommend I set an egress limit of say 1000mbps and that might help?

Set it a bit below, perhaps 900-920 Mbps. Basically run iperf tests until you see the retries drop to zero or almost zero for the correct value.

After further testing, I think that the issue is not with the CRS317, as I cannot now recreate the issue, and the speed tests are the same irrespective as to whether I plug into the CRS 317 port, or the CCR. Thanks for the guidance though, if I see it again, I will try setting the ingress and egress rate.
