MT the answer for a DS3

Wed Oct 03, 2007 7:18 am

Hello Mikrotonians!

So, we are about to get a DS3 from Qwest. It's out first. They have quoted us $8000 for a Nortel DS3 router. This seems awfully high. Does Mikrotik have an enterprise solution for this? Is anyone currently using MT as a core router with a DS3 or greater link?

What is the setup? All I find in the forums is mention of an old card: SBE T3 PCI

If you don't want to pay for a DS3 interface, you need to request Ethernet hand off. The only advantage to a DS3 is when you need to channelize a connection.

We're using a MT on a 200Mbs fiber connection without any problems. It comes directly into a MT using a PCI-e 1Gbs fiber adapter; the ISP throttles it on their side. The throttle is elastic and we've went over the 200Mbs on several occasions, running at 220-225Mbs for several hours.

The traffic capacity might not become problems.
But the packets/second sent and receive to your network, it will ..

How much do you got for packets/sec count passing your MT ?

I like the ethernet handoff idea.

For DS3, you are probably best off with non-MT. Imagestream and Cisco are popular choices.

Or...

If you want it by DS3 cir. then the SBE T3 card works.

Keep in mind most ISPs don like to have you running your own termination point. IE router.

Now the sigiture works...
